MEET OUR FOUNDER

Lubna Saleh Michika

Lubna Saleh Michika is a remarkable advocate for women's rights and the founder of Arewa Voice of the Ladies. As the daughter of the late Alhaji Saleh Michika, a former governor of Adamawa State in Nigeria, Lubna has been passionate about social justice from a young age. Growing up, she would gather her siblings to hold placards demanding her father's intervention in situations where domestic staff were bullies.

This early activism reflects her upbringing, as her father encouraged her and her sisters to express themselves and speak their truths without fear. Despite not having a daughter of her own, Lubna is deeply committed to fighting for women's rights, particularly in the context of marriage. She has witnessed the struggles that women in northern Nigeria face, including abuse, and this has fueled her determination to advocate for change.
Her professional background in broadcast journalism, with experience at TV and radio stations in Calabar and Lagos, has equipped her with the skills to amplify women's voices. She further enhanced her communication abilities by obtaining a certificate in compelling communication skills from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Currently, Lubna is pursuing a career in the medical field in the UK, with aspirations of becoming a therapist. Her commitment to women's issues remains strong, as she actively participates in online campaigns against women abuse. Through her work, she continues to shine a light on the challenges women face and advocates for their rights, embodying the spirit of resilience and empowerment.

Munbokare: A Call to Action for the Freedom of Northern Nigerian Women

Book Description:
Munbokare is not just a book, it is a movement. A fierce yet graceful call to action. A bold, unapologetic voice rising from the heart of Northern Nigeria, demanding justice, dignity, and liberation for women who have been confined to the shadows for far too long. The title “Munbokare”, which means “We Have Woken Up”, captures the essence of this revolutionary work, an awakening of consciousness, courage, and collective power. In this groundbreaking book, the author confronts the deeply entrenched societal norms that have kept women silenced, invisible, and boxed into narrowly defined domestic roles. From forced marriages and denied education to economic dependence and emotional suppression, Munbokare brings to light the unspoken truths of what it means to be a woman in the North. But this book is not driven by anger alone, it is grounded in hope, in peaceful coexistence, and in the belief that men and women can walk side by side without fear or dominance. Munbokare does not seek to tear down men, it seeks to lift up women, so we all can rise. This book is a gift to every young girl silenced by tradition, every woman questioning her worth, and every man ready to be an ally. It is for activists, mothers, policy-makers, and the silent sisters waiting for someone to speak.
